Assignment 1 - (Users and audiences)

Image
Task 2 Music Videos Music videos are primarily made for entertainment purposes as usually they don't provide any educational information in them although they can be used as a way to inform people on things for example when a artist is next performing. They are also used to promote the band/artist as if the music video is visually very good people will be talking about it which will make other people want to watch it, in the end it's the band/artist who gains out of it as it is getting them money.A good example of a recent animated music video is called  Monophobia  by Deadmau5, it has no story line to it but it has a lot of animation it. Because it is so random a lot of people will find it entertaining and want to watch it. Advertising Advertising is a great way to inform and educate as it can provide important detail informing you about something like health as well as educating you about the same topic. It can tell you about a lot of things like the benefits of ...

Assignment 1 - (Techniques and Formats)

Image
Task – 2 Time-Lapse Time-lapse is where the frequency of the images is captured much lower than what is used to view the sequence.   This technique is stop motion as the pictures are repeatedly taken so there is very minimal movement between each frames and then they are played on a very high frames per second so there is the illusion of movement. A good example of a time-lapse is this  kidney bean  plant growing over the course of many days. Claymation Claymation is a form of stop-motion animation that uses clay made characters or backgrounds. This is great for stop-motion as they can be easily manipulated and can be made to do almost any action possible as the clay that is used to make it all is extremely malleable. Potentially the biggest claymation that there is out there is Wallace and Gromit. Wallace and Gromit has been the biggest stop-motion ever made as of the amount of views it has received and to think that it was made entirely out of clay is proba...

Assignment 1 - (Purpose)

Image
Task – 2 Education Stop motion is a great way of educating as it is enjoyable content for a lot of people, mainly young children. This means that young children will happily watch it and still learn at the same time which they won’t understand they are doing. This can be on YouTube or even TV shows. Examples of educational stop motion consist of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao8L-0nSYzg which is an animation that provides education on addiction. A lot of animators will subtly input educational factors into their animation as it shows that stop motion can be used as educational content as well as entertainment content. Early man is a great example of animation that teaches people as it shows how cave men use to live as well as providing entertainment. Entertainment Entertainment is stop motion animations main priority. It was invented for people to watch and enjoy. This is because it provides an alternate reality to the modern day and the possibilities of it are endle...

Assignment 1 -(Contemporary)

Image
Task 1 – Contemporary Tim Burton Tim Burton originally worked for Disney in his younger years as an animator but left as he felt it was too boring for him. After making some short films like Frankenweenie in 1984 Burton felt that he wanted to go into directing. His first box office success came from the short animated film Pee-Wees big adventures in 1985 which led to him creating darker films like Beetle juice in 1988. He then became an established film maker and move to directing more mainstream movies like Batman in 1989 and Batman returns in 1992. Burton was also responsible for the design of a nightmare before Christmas which was released in 1993. In 1990 Tim Burton first collaborated with Johnny Depp which led to a great relationship as Johnny Depp would feature in more films that Burton directed. Burton has directed many other big films that people enjoy to this day and he is still directing films. The type of films that Burton directs appeals to a wide aud...

Assignment 1 -(Developers)

Image
Task 1 – Developers Ray Harryhausen Ray Harryhausen was born in Los Angeles and grew up with a love for dinosaurs and fantasy, his parents later on encouraged his interest in films and model making. He was inspired by the cinematic effects that were used in King Kong and The Lost world. After seeing these two films he began experimenting with Stop-Motion animation in his parent’s garage. At the age of 18 he met with Willis O’Brien who he later worked with on many future projects. His first animation job was with producer George Pal where he worked on the short films “Puppetoons” which was stop-motion. He then caught the attention of Charles Schneer a producer who he worked with on the majority of films. This means that Ray was important in the development of stop-motion animation as he worked on it almost his whole life and made many big animated films. Rays techniques link to the techniques used in the modern day as Ray experimented to find useful stop-motion techniques which...

Assignment 1 -(Pioneers)

Image
Task 1 – Pioneers These pioneers are extremely important for their advances into the film industry by creating different theories for the illusions of movement. Joseph Plateau - Phenakistoscope The phenakistiscope was invented in 1832 by Belgian physicist Joseph Plateau. It has 2 disks that spin in opposite direction so that when they overlap they will create an illusion of an image. It will only show a short continuous loop. It is now known as the first form of moving media that paved the way for the future of modern film and television. It is also the first widespread animation device that created an illusion of motion which then led to the creation of many other illusions of motion. The phenakistoscope is an example of Persistence of vision as it creates movement when there is no movement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rzwdRqsuVM Lumiere Brothers The Lumiere brothers were crucial in the advancement of film and television as they started to invent and manufac...

Assignment 1 -(Techniques)

Image
Task 1 - Techniques There has been many different animation techniques before computer animation which is the main source of animation that is used now. For example you have had animations that have been hand drawn or animations made out of clay figures but it all originally started with animations that were basically made from optical illusions which give the impression of movement for example the Kinetoscope or the Praxinoscope. Persistence of Vision   Persistence of vision is the theory where the brain stores images for around 1/25 of a second, this can therefore be used to create a moving image. This is done by the chemical image being left in your brain as it takes some time to decay which means it gives your brain some time to interpret what we are actually seeing. If the series of images comes in quick enough there is a slight overlap of the images which creates the visual image of motion. If the images don’t come in quick enough and don’t slightly overlap, we will...
